Working with parents

Information and advice for parents on talking to their children about alcohol are provided in a separate section. However schools are encouraged to involve parents in school-based projects whenever possible. Your school could organise, for example:

  • workshops on the subject of alcohol
  • assemblies about alcohol and drinking
  • school conferences on related subjects, such as Drug Misuse and Alcohol
  • guest speakers from, for example, youth organisations, health organisations (or health professionals working with young people), or the police.

Parents may be interested in helping to organise alcohol education events. These events would provide an excellent vehicle for a productive exchange of views while raising awareness of the issues. Parents could also be encouraged to visit the Parents section of the Talk About Alcohol website.
